To the congregation,

I am still pinching myself at the fact that I get to be the pastor of this wonderful congregation. We have so much to offer the com- munity that surrounds us. There are so many incredible things happening and I’m excited about the future when MORE great things will happen to share the love of Christ with our neighbors. You might have heard about the story of the little boy on the beach . . . but I’ll share it with you anyway because it very clearly articulates the way we are going to seek to grow Grace Church.

There was once a boy who was taking a walk on the beach. He noticed that because a storm went through the night before, it washed up thousands and thousands of starfish onto the shore. The amount of starfish were absolutely overwhelming but there stood the boy, tossing starfish after starfish back into the ocean. He would pick one up, look at it and then give it a healthy toss back into the water. After about a half hour of doing this, another person came down the beach and saw what the boy was doing. The man who was walking down the beach asked the little boy "What are you doing? There are THOUSANDS of starfish on the beach, you’ll never make a difference." The boy didn’t even look up from what he was doing, he simply continued to pick up starfish, take a look at them and then fling them back into the water, hoping to save their lives. The boy didn’t miss a beat when he threw the next starfish into the ocean. He simply answered "I made a difference to that one…"
